SALVATION ARMY SET TO OPEN WEST OMAHA DISASTER-RELIEF CENTER SUNDAY

IN COLLABORATION WITH LOCAL BUSINESS

Brite Ideas Decorating to Host Distribution of Free Storm-Cleanup/Relief Products

OMAHA, Nebraska (April 27, 2024) – The Salvation Army of Omaha announced plans today for a collaborative effort with the longtime Omaha lighting business Brite Ideas Decorating which will see a Disaster Relief Center (DRC) open to the public on Sunday (April 28).

Salvation Army Disaster Relief Centers are temporary ‘free pop-up stores’ in which material donations gathered during disaster-relief operations are given away to individuals and families affected by the disaster. Sunday will mark the first time since The Flood of 2019 that The Salvation Army of Omaha has opened a DRC.

The Brite Ideas-based DRC will be open to those in need Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Goods including bottled water, nonperishable foods, cleaning supplies, and personal-care items will be available for free to those affected by Friday’s severe weather in eastern Nebraska and western Iowa. Those wishing to pick up items must show ID.

The DRC has been made possible thanks to the outstanding generosity of both the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro community and the ownership team at Brite Ideas. Throughout the day today (April 27), material-goods donations have been dropped off at the Brite Ideas parking lot and an adjacent Salvation Army donation center.

Material-goods donations will still continue to be accepted come Sunday—at the same location as the DRC. Donors are welcome to drop off disaster-relief items between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday. Attendants will be on-hand to ensure smooth traffic flow between those arriving to pick up free items and donors dropping off donated items.

Based on community need and available resources, The Salvation Army may extend the dates and hours of the Brite Ideas-located DRC further into the new week. The organization will send further word on that to media -- and post about it online (Salvation Army Western Division on Facebook) -- should the dates/hours of DRC operation be extended.

The Salvation Army of Omaha extends its sincere gratitude to the team at Brite Ideas Decorating for their generous support of its disaster-relief efforts.
